Respond to and Appeal Amazon A-to-z Claims With Order Evidence

Build an order-level evidence timeline for Amazon A-to-z claim responses and appeals without confusing delivery, return, refund, or SAFE-T workflows.

How should an Amazon seller handle an A-to-z claim?

Open the claim in Seller Central, preserve the full order record, and answer Amazon's specific question with a dated timeline and supporting evidence. Do not rely on a generic appeal letter or ask the buyer to withdraw a valid claim.

Amazon's US guidance says requested claim information may need a response within 72 hours, and a granted claim can generally be appealed within 30 calendar days. Use the deadline displayed in the live claim because scope and timing can differ, and property-damage or personal-injury claims follow a separate process.

Build the order evidence timeline

  • Record order, SKU, listing condition, purchase, handling deadline, ship confirmation, carrier acceptance, tracking events, promised delivery, proof of delivery, and customer contact.
  • For return disputes, preserve the return request, authorization, label, return address, carrier scans, receipt, inspection, refund, and reason for any closed request.
  • Export the complete Buyer-Seller Messages thread and identify when the buyer reported the issue and how the seller responded.
  • Keep screenshots secondary to native carrier records, Amazon order records, invoices, warehouse evidence, and the exact listing terms that applied at purchase.
  • Separate facts from inference and identify any missing event rather than filling the gap with an unsupported statement.

Respond before the claim is decided

Match the response to the claim type. Delivery claims need dispatch, tracking, carrier, address, and delivery evidence; return claims need the return workflow and refund facts; condition claims need listing, pack, SKU, and customer evidence.

State the requested outcome briefly, attach only responsive files, and label each one. If the evidence shows seller responsibility, take the appropriate customer remedy instead of making a weak dispute that delays resolution.

Appeal only with a decision gap

  • Read the decision and identify the fact, evidence, or policy application that was missed or is newly available.
  • Build the appeal around that gap; do not repeat the original narrative without new support.
  • Submit inside the claim's appeal workflow and current deadline, then preserve the confirmation and any follow-up request.
  • Do not file a SAFE-T claim for an order governed by an A-to-z claim when Amazon's current policy directs you to the A-to-z appeal path.
  • After resolution, reconcile the refund, reimbursement, and Order Defect Rate impact separately.

Scope and exceptions

A-to-z coverage primarily concerns seller-fulfilled order delivery and item condition or return experience. Amazon Pay claims, chargebacks, SAFE-T reimbursement, FBA returns, and product liability or injury claims are different workflows.
