A click is useful only when the shopper is a fit
A higher click-through rate can still produce weak economics if the listing attracts shoppers with the wrong use case, size expectation, or price sensitivity. Read click behavior together with conversion, returns, advertising cost, and contribution profit.
Audit what shoppers see before the click
- Main image: product identity, quantity, scale, and included items are understandable at thumbnail size.
- Title: the product type and primary differentiator appear early without becoming difficult to scan.
- Price: the offer is positioned intentionally against comparable products and pack sizes.
- Rating and delivery: changes are noted before interpreting a creative test.
Compare like-for-like search placements
Do not combine branded searches, generic category searches, and competitor-product placements into one conclusion. Each represents a different level of intent and competitive context. Group results before deciding whether the listing preview is underperforming.
Protect the price floor
A discount can lift clicks quickly, but it may train the team to solve a relevance or presentation problem with margin. Set the lowest acceptable contribution profit first, then test image, title, targeting, and offer improvements within that boundary.
