Audit FBA Export Eligibility and Margin Before Selling Worldwide

Check export settings, product eligibility, customer-facing costs, returns, restrictions, and incremental contribution before relying on FBA Export demand.

How do you decide whether FBA Export is worth enabling?

Confirm the account setting and ASIN eligibility, then compare incremental export orders with their contribution, returns, customer-service burden, restrictions, and effect on domestic inventory. FBA Export can extend eligible US FBA inventory to international customers shopping on Amazon.com, but it should be measured as a distinct order segment rather than assumed to be free growth.

Amazon currently says eligible customers see international shipping and import fees at checkout and Amazon ships the order on the seller's behalf without an additional FBA Export charge to the seller. Normal selling and FBA economics still apply, and product or destination eligibility can limit demand.

Create an ASIN eligibility audit

  • Confirm FBA Export account status and whether the specific ASIN is export eligible in the live setting or report.
  • Review product, brand, dangerous-goods, export-control, destination, warranty, and intellectual-property restrictions.
  • Check title, instructions, measurements, compatibility, safety information, and customer expectations for international buyers.
  • Identify replacement, return, disposal, reimbursement, and customer-support constraints by destination.
  • Assign an owner to review eligibility changes and blocked or newly eligible products.

Measure incremental contribution separately

Start with net item revenue and subtract referral, FBA, advertising allocation, product cost, returns allowance, service labor, warranty exposure, and any other seller-borne cost. Do not subtract customer-paid international shipping or import fees as seller expenses unless they appear in the seller's own transaction record.

Compare export orders with the counterfactual: were they truly additional, or did they consume scarce inventory needed for higher-contribution domestic demand? Monitor units, contribution per order, return and contact rates, destination mix, and stockout impact.

Run a controlled monitoring routine

  • Record the enablement date, eligible ASIN list, domestic inventory cover, and pre-period sales baseline.
  • Tag export orders and reconcile revenue, fees, returns, refunds, reimbursements, and customer contacts.
  • Review destination-specific problems such as compatibility, language, damage, delay, or prohibited-product changes.
  • Protect domestic availability with reorder and advertising rules when inventory is constrained.
  • Keep, limit, or disable the program using a pre-set contribution and service threshold.

Treat enrollment and eligibility as changeable

Amazon says many FBA sellers are enrolled automatically and can review the current status in FBA settings. Do not assume every product, destination, or seller is included, and do not promise cross-border availability outside the customer-facing offer shown by Amazon.

Program scope, eligible destinations, restricted products, customer charges, returns, and account settings can change. Verify the current FBA Export setting and applicable trade, product, tax, and consumer obligations before enabling products or interpreting results.
