What should you do after an Amazon IP infringement complaint?
Preserve the notice, pause edits that could destroy the evidence trail, and identify the exact ASIN, marketplace, right type, complainant, content or product at issue, and response path. Then decide whether to dispute an error, correct the listing or sourcing problem, or seek a retraction from the verified rights owner.
Do not answer a trademark, copyright, patent, counterfeit, and authenticity issue as though they were interchangeable. Amazon's policy points sellers who believe a warning is wrong to the notice's dispute or appeal route, while a licensed seller may need the rights owner to submit a retraction.
Create a rights-and-ASIN map
- Copy the case ID, enforcement date, marketplace, ASIN, SKU, listing status, complainant contact, registration or work cited, and the exact allegation from the notice.
- Identify whether the issue concerns a brand name, logo, image, text, design, invention, product source, packaging, or another protected element.
- Map who created, owns, licensed, supplied, uploaded, and approved each disputed asset or product.
- Preserve dated listing versions, source files, licenses, authorization letters, supplier invoices, purchase orders, product and packaging photos, and chain-of-custody records.
- Verify that names, addresses, dates, quantities, model numbers, and ASINs agree across every document.
Choose the response path before writing
If the notice is factually wrong, identify the one error and attach evidence that proves it. If permission exists, show the scope, territory, products, marketplace use, and effective dates. If the seller caused the violation, remove the unsupported content or supply path, investigate how it passed review, and document controls that prevent recurrence.
A rights-owner retraction is different from a seller appeal. Contact only the verified party named in the notice, remain factual, and never pressure a complainant or submit a fabricated authorization.
Write an evidence-led response
- Open with the ASIN, right type, notice ID, and requested resolution.
- State only facts supported by the attached rights map and chronology.
- Label each exhibit and explain the single proposition it proves.
- For corrective responses, name the root cause, completed correction, responsible owner, and preventive control.
- Submit in the workflow shown in Account Health or the notice, save the confirmation, and track any information request against the displayed deadline.
Scope and exceptions
This workflow is for a seller responding to an enforcement notice. Brand Registry Report a Violation and Project Zero are rights-owner tools, while authenticity complaints may require a supplier-invoice evidence pack. Complex ownership, fair-use, patent, licensing, or jurisdiction questions may require qualified legal advice.
Review [Amazon's Intellectual Property Policy for Sellers](https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/external/G201361070?locale=en-US) and the notice itself before acting. Rights, registrations, policy fields, and appeal routes can differ by marketplace and allegation.
