What should you do when your Amazon IPI score changes?
Open the Inventory Performance dashboard and identify which underlying inventory conditions changed. Do not respond to the score alone; move to the affected SKU, quantify the operational and financial consequence, and choose the smallest action that improves the root cause.
Amazon uses IPI as an inventory-health signal, while capacity decisions and dashboard recommendations can change over time. Treat the current Seller Central view as the authoritative account-specific source.
Separate the action queue into four problems
- Excess or aging inventory that ties up cash and may create additional costs.
- Weak sell-through caused by quantity, demand, price, traffic, conversion, or seasonality.
- Stranded inventory or listing problems preventing available stock from being purchased.
- Replenishment risk that can create stockouts on healthy products.
Prioritize by dollars and deadlines
For each SKU, record units, inventory age, days of cover, contribution per order, expected demand, storage exposure, and the deadline for action. Rank the queue by recoverable cash, avoidable cost, and lost contribution rather than by unit count alone.
A small quantity of high-value inventory can deserve attention before a larger quantity of low-cost stock. A fast-selling SKU near stockout belongs in a different queue from an aging SKU that needs an exit decision.
Match each problem to a controlled response
- Fix suppressed or stranded offers before spending more to create demand.
- Pause or reduce purchase orders when inventory cover is already excessive.
- Test price, advertising, listing, or promotion changes within a contribution floor.
- Use removal, liquidation, outlet, or other eligible options only after comparing net recovery.
- Accelerate replenishment only when demand and margin justify the added logistics cost.
Close the loop every week
Assign each priority SKU an owner, action, date, expected financial effect, and next review point. Compare actual sell-through, stock status, cost, and cash recovery with the expectation before repeating the action across the catalog.
Amazon's FBA Dashboard and Inventory Performance tools surface account-specific signals and recommendations. Use them with your own margin and cash data so an IPI improvement does not come at the expense of profitable availability.
