Audit an Amazon Partner Carrier Shipment Before Pickup

Verify shipment mode, quotes, labels, pickup evidence, and final charges before handing domestic FBA or AWD inventory to an Amazon-partnered carrier.

How should you audit a Partner Carrier shipment?

Confirm the destination workflow, shipment method, real-time estimate, packaging, labels, pickup details, and reconciliation owner before tendering inventory. Amazon's Partner Carrier Program supports domestic inbound shipments to eligible US FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment, and Amazon Warehousing and Distribution destinations, but the available services and estimates depend on the shipment.

Compare the live option with a carrier quote built from the same origin, destination, freight-ready date, dimensions, weight, service level, and accessorial assumptions. The lowest visible estimate is not automatically the lowest landed inbound cost.

Choose a shipment method from operating facts

  • Record carton or pallet count, dimensions, weight, stackability, freight class where applicable, and cargo restrictions.
  • Compare small parcel, less-than-truckload, full-truckload, or intermodal choices only when they are offered for the live shipment.
  • Check pickup lead time, appointment needs, dock equipment, operating hours, carrier capacity, and receiving deadline.
  • Keep FBA and AWD shipments separate; Amazon's public guidance says they cannot be combined into one shipment.
  • Use a fallback carrier and inventory-cover plan when a missed pickup could create a stockout.

Control labels and pickup evidence

Assign one person to verify the shipment ID, box or pallet count, FBA box labels, carrier labels, bill of lading when relevant, and pickup reference. Amazon notes that FBA box labels are different from carrier shipping labels, so do not treat one as a substitute for the other.

Photograph sealed cartons or pallets and readable labels, retain weight and dimension records, and capture the signed pickup document. Link every file to the same shipment ID so a carrier exception or receiving discrepancy can be investigated quickly.

Reconcile complete inbound cost

  • Record the quoted charge, billed charge, fuel, liftgate, appointment, reweigh, reclassification, redelivery, storage, or other accessorial amounts.
  • Add prep, packaging, pallet, labor, inbound-placement, delay, and stockout effects that do not appear in the carrier estimate.
  • Match tracking milestones with pickup, delivery, check-in, receiving, and available-for-sale dates.
  • Investigate carton shortages, damage, unexpected fees, or delayed receiving with the preserved shipment evidence.
  • Compare final cost per received unit with the alternative used in the original decision.

Recheck every shipment instead of copying an old plan

Carrier availability, capacity, rates, pickup windows, shipment options, and facility instructions can change. Reopen the live Send to Amazon or AWD workflow and current carrier terms rather than reusing labels, estimates, or routing assumptions from a prior shipment.

Use another carrier when the program does not support the shipment, the operating requirements cannot be met, the complete cost is worse, or the inventory deadline needs a different service. Preserve a written reason for the selection so later invoice and receiving results can be compared with the decision.
