Map Amazon Search Intent to Listings and Campaigns

Group search queries by shopper intent so keywords, product pages, bids, and landing choices support the same buying decision.

Keywords with similar words can signal different needs

A query about a product type, a specific feature, a use case, and a competitor alternative may all contain the same core term. Their conversion potential and the proof required on the listing can be very different.

Create a practical intent map

  • Category intent: the shopper is comparing the general product type.
  • Feature intent: a specification or benefit is central to the decision.
  • Use-case intent: the shopper describes the situation or problem.
  • Brand intent: the shopper already knows a brand or exact product.
  • Alternative intent: the shopper is comparing substitutes or competitors.

Choose the right product and proof

Send each query group to the product that most directly satisfies it. Make sure the title, images, bullets, and supporting content confirm that fit. Advertising cannot compensate indefinitely for a mismatch between the query and the product page.

Set bids using economics and evidence

Compare conversion, cost per order, return behavior, and contribution profit by intent group. Expand spending only after enough relevant traffic shows that the query creates valuable demand, not just clicks.
