What must happen before dangerous goods enter an FBA shipment?
Determine whether the exact product and configuration are regulated as dangerous goods, submit the required product information and documents, and wait for the applicable Amazon review before creating the inbound plan. The seller remains responsible for accurate classification and compliance with laws, carrier rules, and Amazon requirements.
Do not classify a family of products from a brand name or marketing description. Formula, concentration, battery chemistry, watt-hours, pressurization, package size, and marketplace can change the result even when two SKUs look similar.
Create an ASIN-level classification file
- Record ASIN, SKU, marketplace, product name, model, formula or battery specification, package quantity, dimensions, weight, and intended fulfillment method.
- Identify the manufacturer and the qualified person or service that determined the transport and storage classification.
- Collect the current safety data sheet, battery test summary, ingredient or technical sheet, exemption document, and other evidence requested for the product type.
- Match document product names, model numbers, revision dates, language, and manufacturer details to the listing and physical unit.
- Record prohibited modes, quantity limits, temperature or segregation needs, label requirements, and carrier restrictions without assuming FBA approval covers every transport leg.
Validate the physical pack and listing
Compare the approved evidence with a production sample. Check closures, leak prevention, battery installation, terminals, cushioning, orientation, warning marks, barcodes, lot identifiers, and the outer shipment carton. Photograph the verified configuration and lock the bill of materials and packing instruction used for the review.
Keep listing attributes consistent with the evidence. An omitted battery, aerosol, chemical, or package quantity can delay classification or create an inaccurate product detail page. Recheck after any formulation, supplier, component, pack-count, or packaging change.
Use a controlled inbound release checklist
- Confirm the current classification or review status for every ASIN before adding units to the shipping plan.
- Verify that the destination program, fulfillment center workflow, carrier, route, and country permit the product and quantity.
- Separate approved, pending, rejected, and prohibited inventory so a warehouse cannot ship the wrong cohort.
- Attach the correct unit and carton labels and retain shipment, lot, document-version, and inspection records.
- Assign an owner for Amazon questions, document expiry, supplier changes, incidents, and periodic revalidation.
Stop for uncertainty or conflicting evidence
Do not ship when documents are missing, expired, illegible, inconsistent with the product, or issued for another model; when packaging differs from the reviewed configuration; or when a carrier or jurisdiction imposes a stricter restriction. A pending review is not approval, and an FBA-eligible offer does not prove that the inbound transport is compliant.
Amazon's accepted documents, review timing, storage program, quantity thresholds, prohibited products, and marketplace availability can change. Use the current dangerous-goods identification guide, Seller Central review status, and qualified regulatory advice for the exact product and route.
