How do you check whether a product is restricted on Amazon?
Review the exact product, ingredients, components, intended use, claims, packaging, destination marketplace, category, condition, and fulfillment method against current law and Amazon's restricted-product and approval pages before creating the listing.
Do not use the Everything Else category, a generic product type, or a nearby ASIN to avoid approval. Amazon requires sellers to obtain approval for certain categories and prohibits some products entirely.
Build a product restriction dossier
- Record manufacturer, model, UPC or GTIN, formula or materials, battery or chemical details, age grade, intended use, claims, warnings, and package quantity.
- Identify applicable federal, state, local, import, transport, labeling, safety, environmental, and marketplace rules.
- Map category approval, brand approval, condition eligibility, dangerous-goods classification, and FBA or FBM restrictions separately.
- Collect licenses, test reports, certifications, safety data, invoices, authorization letters, label artwork, and product photographs.
- Assign an owner and review date for policy, formula, packaging, supplier, and claim changes.
Review the listing and physical unit together
Compare the proposed title, bullets, images, keywords, intended-use statements, dosage, compatibility, age claims, and promotional language with the physical product and evidence. A permitted product can become noncompliant through an unsupported claim or inaccurate attribute.
Inspect each variation and bundle independently. A parent listing, category approval, or compliant base model does not automatically cover a different size, ingredient, battery, accessory, or multipack.
Use a controlled listing release checklist
- Confirm the product is not prohibited in the destination marketplace.
- Obtain every required category, brand, or product approval before inventory commitment.
- Verify the selected product type and browse classification are accurate.
- Confirm fulfillment, carrier, storage, and return restrictions for the exact configuration.
- Save the approved evidence, Seller Central decision, listing version, and responsible reviewer.
Stop and close when evidence conflicts
If Amazon identifies a product as restricted, close the listing while reviewing the applicable policy and appeal path. Do not relist under another ASIN, category, or wording to evade the restriction. Escalate only with product-specific evidence that addresses the stated rule.
